Parliamentary candidates for Palapye constituency have promised to develop roads, advocate for the manufacturing of coal products at Morupule mine, open the glass project and focus on the creation of employment in the constituency.

The five, Mr Gape Motswaledi from Alliance for Progressives (AP), Mr Moiseraele Goya from Botswana Democratic Party (BDP), Dr Kolaatamo Malefho from Botswana Patriotic Front (BPF), Mr Onneetse Ramogapi from Umbrella for Democratic Change (UDC) and an independent candidate, Mr Boniface Mangagu took to the stage during Radio Botswana debate on Thursday in Palapye.

Mr Motswaledi said Palapye residents were hopeful that they would find employment after the opening of the malls.

He said some of the shops at the malls were not occupied and he would lure investors to occupy them for the youth to find jobs.

He also said his party would make the country one of the best run in the world.

He said the AP has promised Batswana in its manifesto that it would increase the economy of the country by 10 per cent every year for six years.

He said his party would also focus on decreasing the teacher pupil ratio at schools.

He appealed to the electorates to vote for him so that he could intensify campaigns against corruption in the country.

Mr Goya said the BDP was the only party which has a track record and has developed Batswana.

He said he took part in developing Batswana when he was employed by the bank by providing them with loans to develop Palapye.

He said he was the rightful parliamentary candidate for Palapye.

He pleaded with Palapye constituents to vote for him so that he could continue to lure investors in the constituency and advocate for developments in Palapye.

Mr Goya said there was need for the government to expand Palapye hospital so that it could accommodate clients from Tswapong area. He said the hospital was always congested.

He said during his tenure as Member of Parliament he was not only asking for developments from the government, but was also asking for help from different stakeholders.

He said constituents should continue voting for him so that he could continue where he left.

He said he would advocate for the expansion of the A1 road and internal roads in Palapye because the road was always congested.

He said he would ask government to consider building an airport in their constituency.

Mr Goya said he would continue to ask government to pave internal roads in Palapye at extension 10 and 11 areas.

He added that Palapye has to also have a storm water drainage system.

He said he would continue to ask government to build a clinic at Tlhomadithotse area.

Dr Malefho said he would advocate for better health facilities in the constituency, the provision of better infrastructure in schools and the construction of the A1 road to be a dual carriage way.

The MP aspirant said constituents had pleaded with government to build a hospital in their constituency many years ago, but that the BDP government was failing them.

He said constituents should vote for him so that he could advocate for the building of the hospital.

Mr Ramogapi said his party’s manifesto was an answer to Batswana’s challenges, especially unemployment and low wages.

He said the UDC was committed to creating 100 000 jobs in 12 months, P3 000 as minimum wage and P1 500 for old age pension.

He also said his party would provide P2 500 tertiary allowance as well as provide sanitary towels to all girls.

Mr Ramogapi said the BDP government had promised Palapye residents that the hospital would be expanded, but that it failed.

He said constituents should vote for his party because it would provide them with the services that they need.

He pleaded with the constituents to vote for his party because it has promised that it would restore the dignity of teachers to improve results.

Independent candidate, Mr Mangangu said if he gets to Parliament he would make sure that the land policy was changed so that Batswana could get plots.

He said he believes that every Motswana has to have a plot so that they could develop it when they were ready to do so.

He said he would also ask government to change Mabogo Junior Secondary School in Palapye to a school of excellence.

Mr Mangangu also said Palapye deserved good roads, and that if to Parliament, he would ask the government to expand the A1 road. ENDS
