DCEC rebuts The Voice article

06 Oct 2019

The Directorate on Corruption and Economic Crime has distanced itself from contents of the article in The Voice newspaper titled; Spy Chief probed for abuse of office by DCEC, published in the Friday 4, October 2019 edition.

A press release from the DCEC says, however, they acknowledge that director general, Brigadier Joseph Mathambo, was interviewed by The Voice’s journalist, Ms Sharon Mathala, on October 2, in respect of an allegation that the institution (DCEC) was investigating DISS director general, Mr Peter Magosi, for alleged ‘abuse of office’.

The release says the DCEC director general did not confirm that it was conducting an investigation into DISS director general.

It says the DCEC director general informed The Voice journalist during the interview that they have not received such allegation ‘but will let you know in the event we do’, as opposed to the misquoted comment and the effect that the DCEC had received such complaint.

The DCEC reiterates that it has not received an allegation against the DISS director general and it is not investigating any matter alleged. The DCEC has thus assured the public that should such allegations materialise that they will be dealt with, without fear or favour. ENDs
