Masisi urges Batswana to vote for future

01 Oct 2019

President Dr Mokgweetsi Masisi has appealed to voters of Bobonong constituency to retain the BDP in power in order to see their challenges addressed.

Speaking at the launch of Bobonong constituency Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) candidates on September 28,  Dr Masisi said he was alive to the challenges the constituents were facing such as the drought and cross border cattle rustling.

He said Bobonong was one of the constituencies that the BDP prided itself with having been under their control from time immemorial. President Dr Masisi said it would be some disservice to the people of Bononong if they could not be represented by a BDP candidate in Parliament.

He challenged voters to think about their future and that of their children as they decide their parliamentary and council representatives. He asked voters if they were going to see their beautiful constituency going to the dogs because they had made wrong decisions at the polls.

Dr Masisi said it was an opportune time to retain the BDP in the constituency and the country so as to see the BDP implement its plans for the country.

He said despite challenges of unemployment, which his party was facing head-on, he would not make unattainable goals such as promising salary increases just so that his party gets voted for.

President Masisi also informed the Bobonong electorate that government was currently conducting mid-term review of National Development Plan 11 (NDP 11), together with Vision 2036 to gauge the gains and challenges with a view of addressing challenges, especially unemployment.

He warned the electorate that they would commit a grave mistake of not voting and they stood to suffer the consequences of their inaction. He warned that voting for the opposition that promised unattainable goals would see them enjoy the fruits which would last a few months.

By voting for the BDP, President Masisi said voters would in essence usher in peace, which was synonymous with the BDP, unto themselves. He also thanked former Bobonong MP, who is also Minister of Defence, Justice and Security, Mr Shaw Kgathi for remaining true to the party.

President Masisi said he expected Minister Kgathi to live true to his promise of supporting the BDP by supporting and casting his vote for Mr Francisco Kgoboko.

At the same launch, Assistant Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, who is also a parliamentary candidate for Serowe North, Mr Kgotla Autlwetse said the BDP had a well thought out succession plan that rendered the party a unique organisation.

He called on Bobonong constituency electorate to retain BDP in power by voting for its council and parliamentary candidates who would subsequently confirm Dr Masisi as the President of the republic. He said President Masisi was deserving of the exaltations heaped on him by his predecessor, Lt Gen. Dr Seretse Khama Ian Khama.

In his acceptance speech, Mr Kgoboko said he volunteered to represent his constituents and not as a way of seeking employment. He said he would vouch for the recognition of Boboirwa as a full district. He also talked of the need for a 70-bed hospital that would cater for the needs of his electorate. He said the project, which was in pipeline, should be expedited.

Mr Kgoboko said Babirwa wanted the BDP to carry on with completion of ongoing projects as well as those in the pipeline. Mr Kgoboko also wants to see unemployment addressed as well as human-wildlife conflict.  ENDS
