AP vows to grow economy in six years
09 Sep 2019
Deputy Leader of Alliance for Progressives (AP) Mr Wynter Mmolotsi say his party values uprightness, honesty and integrity, which principles resonate well with the interest of Batswana.
During the launch of the party’s prospective parliamentary candidate, Mr Christopher Bogatsu and council hopefuls on Sunday, Mr Mmolotsi said should they win the election, the AP government guided by the party’s values would transform and stimulate the country’s economy through production value chain, which will result in job creation.
He said his party would grow the economy at 10 per cent in six years and in the process create jobs, improve the health and education , among others.
He said growing the economy at such a rate would enable them to reduce the import bill from P71 billion to P20 billion.
Mr Mmolotsi also argued that the AP-led government would promote self-sufficiency in the production and export of key agricultural products through modernising and improving the agricultural sector and facilitating wealth creation by farmers.
On issues of land, a predicament in which Batlokwa finds themselves, he said AP would continue to advocate for a legislature to address the challenge.
He said AP brought forward a motion in Parliament to amend the Tribal Land Act upon realising that it was important for people to be entitled to residential plots in both urban and rural areas.
He said this was because people worked in urban centres and when they retired they wanted to go home. Mr Mmolotsi further stated that AP was committed to making contributions in Parliament that would change the lives of Batswana positively.
He said through the likes of Mr Bogatsu, the electorate are assured of an MP who would contribute to making laws, review bills and bring them to a desirable state.
Mr Mmolotsi also advised voters to carefully assess party manifestos and not to be susceptible to unattainable promises by some opposition parties.
The AP Women’s Wing deputy president, Ms Pushy Manyeneng urged the electorate to vote for women representatives at both Parliament and local government level.
She said women should be at the forefront in decision-making, given their capabilities at home.
For his part, Mr Bogatsu said when voted to Parliament, the land issue would be his priority as Batlokwa do not own land. ENDS
