Botswana Democratic Party ready for elections

Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) secretary general, Mr Mpho Balopi, says his party is ready for the October 23 general election.
Addressing a media conference in Gaborone on September 3, Mr Balopi said all BDP structures, organs and processes were ready.
He said at a recent central committee meeting, the party resolved to focus more on its campaign strategy.
Mr Balopi said they were aware of their competitors in the opposition and therefore, BDP would soon reveal more of its promises to Batswana.
In addition, he said the party resolved to compete fairly, peacefully and with respect in order to maintain and uphold the stability of the nation and the party’s pillars.
He noted that whoever displays misconduct during campaigns, would be advised accordingly and guided as per the Constitution of the party.
He said BDP candidates had been trained well. However, he said it was an ongoing process since they believed it could never be enough.
Mr Balopi said the BDP held good conduct in high esteem, adding that they respected and upheld the foundation that the party’s founding members laid for it.
He indicated that out of the 57 constituencies, the had already launched 38 prospective candidates.
He said the party would submit presidential nominations as required on September 21 and parliamentary candidate nominations on September 26.
Furthermore, Mr Balopi encouraged Batswana to vote for the BDP, saying it was still the only party that had their interests at heart and was committed to developing and empowering them. ends
