The former vice president, Dr Ponatshego Kedikilwe, has called on residents of Palapye to vote for the Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) prospective parliamentary candidate, Mr Moiseraele Goya and the party’s council hopefuls in the October 23 general election.

Dr Kedikilwe said the BDP hopefuls would continue to drive the party’s development agenda. 

He said the BDP government’s policies and programmes were based on social, economic and development issues. 

He said plot allocation in Palapye had commenced, explaining that the delay was due to mapping and demarcation of land. 

He said Mr Goya had advocated for construction of a hospital in Palapye looking at the village’s rapid development and population growth. 

He stated that two private health practicing organisations had shown interest to open private hospitals in Palapye.

Dr Kedikilwe also mentioned that the Botswana Development Corporation (BDC) was in the process to resuscitate the glass manufacturing plant project in Palapye.

He said the old police station would be renovated, despite the region’s headquarters having been opened recently.

He further said, through Mr Goya’s input, internal roads had been paved, while the road leading to the Botswana International University of Science and Technology (BIUST), the road that connected Extension 11 via Mmaphula ward and grave yards had been upgraded to bitumen standards. 

He said Mr Goya had also spearheaded projects to renovate customary court shelters and also sourced funds to donate blankets to Palapye hospital as well as children in some schools.

Dr Kedikilwe said the Master Goya Foundation helped around 500 youth to be engaged in business management and entrepreneurship workshops. 

Dr Kedikilwe called on residents to vote for Mr Goya and council hopefuls in the coming general election to maintain governance and to bring developments, eradicate abject poverty and create employment.

For his part, Mr Boyce Sebetela, who is also former MP for Palapye, called on residents to vote for the BDP, for it to continue bringing developments and improving the lives of Batswana.

Mr Goya urged residents to vote for the BDP to allow him and council hopefuls to continue with obligations of implementing development programmes that the BDP had put in place. 

He said he intends to advocate for Palapye to be elevated to town status, looking at the developments taking place. 

He said his intention was for Palapye to become an industrial city where production, manufacturing plants would be centered and also a place where coal from the Morupule mine will have a positive impact on the economy of both Palapye and Botswana as a whole. 

Mr Goya will be up against Mr Onnetse Ramogapi of the Umbrella for Democratic Change (UDC) and Mr Gape Motswaledi of the Alliance for Progressives (AP). Ends
