18 Aug 2019
Alliance for Progressives (AP) has confidence in its Selibe Phikwe West prospective parliamentary candidate,Mr Maxwell Mosinyi’s capability to change the lives of residents for the better.
AP’s secretary general Dr Phenyo Butale said during the launch of Mr Mosinyi on August 17 that if voted into power, AP will rebuild the economy of the country and promote the manufacturing sector which would create permanent and well-paying jobs for Batswana.
He said Mr Mosinyi, brought with him an extensive experience, having served in higher positions in various parastatals including Botswana Investment Trade Centre.
Dr Butale said currently Batswana were consumers of products from neighbouring countries, adding that AP would reduce the import bill by making the country self-sufficient in many areas.
He said the high import bill was an indication that Botswana was creating employment in other countries whilst its people were suffering.
He also urged Selebi Phikwe residents to vote for AP prospective council candiates, Mr Arone Sefho of Mowana ward, Mr Stephen Tawanana of hospital ward, Mr Mooki Nkala and Mr Kealeboga Kebareng of Bontleng and Thakadiawa wards respectively.
For his part, Mr Mosinyi appealed to Selebi Phikwe residents to vote for him saying his main interest was to change the economic landscape of the town and make it an economic hub.
He said the closure of the BCL mine which was the economic backbone of Selebi Phikwe had serious implications on the economy of Selebi Phikwe resulting in thousands of job losses.
He said Selebi Phikwe’s local economy should be diversified to create decent jobs for the local people.
He said AP wants to see active participation of locals in their economy hence his party would ensure that the economy does not remain in the hands of the few.
Mr Mosinyi said his party would come up with programmes geared towards empowering Batswana especially small businesses to participate in their economy.
He further informed electorates that their town was endowed with fertile land which could be used for agricultural purpose.
He said water at Letsibogo and Dikgathong dams could be used to support agricultural activities in the town as well as a fish industry at Letsibogo dam.
Mr Mosinyi further said Selebi Phikwe was one of the first towns in the country but was lagging behind in terms of developments, adding that the town had since been surpassed by Palapye which had not even been declared a town.
He urged the residents of the copper mining town to vote wisely in the coming general election. He said AP is the only party that has their interests at heart and capable of turning this town around.
Mr Mosinyi will wrestle for the seat with Botswana Democratic Party prospective candidate Mr Allen Lekwapa and the incumbent MP Mr Dithapelo Keorapetse of the Umbrella for Democratic Change. Ends
