Opposition opposes developments - Balopi
12 Aug 2019
Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) secretary general, Mr Mpho Balopi has urged South East constituents to vote for his party, saying opposition members oppose developments earmarked for their area.
Launching Ramotswa BDP prospective parliamentary and council candidates in Ramotswa on August 10, Mr Balopi said opposition parliamentarians on Friday voted against a motion requesting funds for a water reticulation pipeline, saying as such they were not worth voting for.
The BDP promotes transparency, hence the adoption of the Declaration of Assets and Liabilities Bill under which Members of Parliament will declare their assets at the beginning as well as the end of their term, he said.
Mr Balopi also said Parliament had amended the Land Act to allow married women to own plots.
As for businesses, he said entrepreneurs could start operating while waiting for trade licences.
He said beef prices had been increased by three per cent per kilogram and encouraged farmers to sell their livestock at the Botswana Meat Commission.
For his part, former MP for Ramotswa, Mr Odirile Motlhale said all developments being undertaken in the constituency were his ideas, among them the Gaborone-Boatle dual carriageway and the Constituency Development Fund.
He urged the electorate to amend their mistake ,which they did in 2014 when they voted the opposition candidate. ENDS
