Voters have been urged to exercise caution when casting their votes during the up coming general election.

The call was made by the Vice President, Mr Slumber Tsogwane when presenting the Botswana Democratic Party’s prospective candidates for Gabane/Mmankgodi constituency, Mr Kagiso Mmusi and 10 council prospective candidates on August 11.  

In light of a fiercely contested poll in October, Mr Tsogwane who is also BDP chairperson said it was important for voters to carefully assess all political parties and their leaders and only vote for those who stood for truth and integrity.

“Do not take these elections for granted, exercise caution,” the Vice President charged
He said it was important to vote wisely as the up coming election had generated a lot of interest even in other countries.   

Mr Tsogwane further stated that in a bid to win the election, some opposition parties ‘had auctioned the country to the highest bidder’.

That being the case, he said BDP would safeguard the resources of this country.

The Vice President expressed concern that other party leaders were de-campaigning the country in foreign soils, something he alleged was a first in the history of this republic.

“This is a clear indication that those who do so are not patriotic at all and yet they claim to love the country,” he quipped.

The Vice President however indicated that BDP offered a renewed hope that was purely built in democratic ideals anchored on the rule of law, Botho, consultation and giving power to the people.

He noted that the BDP differed with other parties in that they had not bestowed power in an individual, rather at BDP power rested with the people, hence the party was unshakable and still remained stronger than ever, ‘something that would catapult it to victory once again in October’.

Mr Tsogwane stated that the party was founded on a strong foundation by their predecessors.  

The party, he emphasised was guided by its constitution, manifesto and proper administrative processes.  

As a result he said BDP had a good track record and a rich history, something that sets them apart from other opposition parties.

Giving the branch campaign update, Gabane/Mmankgodi constituency campaign manager, Ms Tshepo Wareus said the constituency had registered over 23 000 eligible voters.  

She said they received a positive response among voters, which was made easier by the stewardship of President Dr Mokgweetsi Masisi.

Molepolole South MP hopeful, Mr Kabo Morwaeng said Mr Mmusi was not new in the political scene.  

In fact he said constituents had long wanted him to represent them at Parliament because he was capable.

For his part, Mr Mmusi promised to wrestle the constituency from opposition together with the 10 council prospective candidates.  Ends
