Tsogwane courts Ngami voters

05 Aug 2019

The Vice President, Mr Slumber Tsogwane has urged Ngami constituents to vote for the ruling party in the upcoming general election as it has Batswana’s interest at heart.

Speaking at the launch for the party’s Ngami prospective parliamentary and council candidates at Gumare on August 4, Mr Tsogwane said Botswana needed BDP as it was the only stable party in the country.

He commended Ngami electorates for having voted for BDP during the 2014 general elections and encouraged them to vote for it again in October by voting for Mr Thato Kwerepe and the nine prospective  council candidates.

Mr Tsogwane said the voters made a good decision in 2014 by voting back the ruling party in Ngami constituency, adding that it was sign that people of Ngami had a vision as BDP was the only party that could take the area to greater heights.

He also noted that Botswana was blessed with a visionary leader in President Dr Mokgweetsi Masisi, and as such implored Batswana to vote for BDP to ensure that Dr Masisi continues to lead the country.

The Vice President said since assumption of power, Dr Masisi had shown without doubt that he was visionary leader who wanted to transform Botswana from a middle to a high income economy.

Mr Tsogwane also commended the President for his commitment to fighting corruption in the country, adding that the Declaration of Assets and Liabilities Bill tabled in parliament recently was another effort to root out corruption in Botswana.

For his part, Mr Kwerepe pleaded with Ngami electorates to vote for him again in October, noting that they chose him in 2014 because they knew he was capable of leading the constituency.

Mr Kwerepe said BDP was the only party that cared about the lives of Batswana given its programmes intended to improve people’s livelihoods.

Okavango MP, Mr Bagalatia Arone also pleaded with Ngami residents to vote back the BDP in the upcoming election.

He said government had made a commitment that  mother tongue education would be introduced in schools, adding that it was in the BDP manifesto. He said the BDP deserved their vote for it had good intentions of improving education in the country.

Former Ngami MP, Mr Jacob Nkate who lost to Mr Kwerepe in the primary elections also advocated for Mr Kwerepe., Mr Nkate however told Ngami constituents to desist from ills such as tribalism because it was detrimental to the peace and tranquility Botswana was famous for.

Campaign manager, Mr Mokadi Masedi said party members were united and supported each other well in their region.

He said the elders and youth of Ngami evidently still wanted the constituency under the ruling party.

BDP Northwest regional chairperson Mr George Lubinda also implored Ngami constituents to vote for all the nine council candidates and the parliamentary candidate, saying by voting them they would have voted President Dr Masisi into power. ENDS
