Mmolotsi urges government to expedite negotiations

04 Aug 2019

Alliance for Progressive Party vice president, Mr Wynter Mmolotsi has called on the government to speed up negotiations on conditions of service for public officers and improve their salaries as they did with the disciplined forces.

He underscored the need for government to seriously address public officers’ issues to ensure quality service delivery.

Launching the Okavango prospective parliamentary candidate, Mr Kabelo Mahupe and council candidates, Mr Mmolotsi emphasised the need for government to complete the negotiations, adding that currently public officers were disgruntled and struggling to live dignified lives because they were underpaid and the cost of living was high.

He appreciated that AP was visible country wide and urged the electorates to shun political parties which were making empty promises.

AP, he said was the only party which prided itself with credible and strong leadership, and has the nation’s interest at heart.

He urged Okavango community to give Mr Mahupe and council candidates a chance in this year’s general election.

The party fully understands that the current economy status is not stable to pay old pensioners better wages, noting that a new government was needed to grow the economy and pleaded with Okavango residents to give his party a chance to lead.

If voted into power, Mr Mmolotsi said they would grow the economy by 3.5 per cent for six years, pay better wages and also start big factories which would create employment.

Okavango region, he said was rich in natural resources hence residents should not be poverty stricken as there were a lot of tourism opportunities they could exploit.

Mr Mmolotsi described Mr Mahupe, who is also the party policy director as a visionary leader, trade unionist who did wonders in advocating for teachers rights.

He also appreciated that the party was newly formed and that several motions adopted in Parliament were from the AP MPs citing the introduction of prepaid electricity and prepaid water which aimed to address public outcry of high bills from Botswana Power Corporation and Water Utilities Corporation.

Other motions, he cited were the construction of rehabilitation centres for youth under the influence of drugs and construction of old age facilities among others.

The motions, he said were a clear indication that AP cares about Batswana.

Maun West prospective parliamentary candidate, Mr Moalosi Sebati described Mr Mahupe as a vibrant leader with fresh ideas and urged residents to rally behind him.

He said Mr Mahupe was a veteran politician, intelligent and ready to represent them well in Parliament.

He said AP promised to formulate a policy which would ensure that 50 per cent of revenue generated from tourism sector was channelled to community development.

For his part, Mr Mahupe thanked residents for supporting AP, saying that it was the only party that preached the truth as compared to other political parties.

He concurred with the party vice president that the constituency needed strong leadership with brilliant ideas and urged residents to vote for him.

He revealed during his constituency tour, he learnt that some people did not register for general elections because they had lost trust in the incumbent MP. ENDS
