UDC united in bid for elections

17 Jul 2019

The Umbrella for Democratic Change (UDC) is said to be united in its bid to win the 2019 general elections to be held sometime this year.

When briefing the media after their three-day conference, which was held at Ba Isago University in Gaborone recently, UDC President, Mr Duma Boko said they would be going into the general elections race united.

He pointed out that the conference enabled them to reflect on the path they had travelled so far and also to re-commit to their course of delivering an alternative government to Batswana.

Mr Boko revealed that they were committed to delivering everything that they are promising in their manifesto, which was largely influenced by stakeholders from different walks of life, stressing that they made it a point to consult the masses.

“We are more than ready to transform the economy, give free sanitary pads, a living wage of P3 000 and a 100 000 jobs in the first 12 months in office,” he said.

Furthermore, he pointed out that they intended to revolutionise the health care system to make it one of the best in the world, saying the system would encourage health care data capture.

In view of the low number of women council and parliamentary candidates, the UDC President said they had resolved that the slots for specially elected members would be dominated by women as their way of addressing the gender imbalance.

He said post elections, an evaluation shall be carried out to explore ways and means of taking the coalition to an even higher level, with a possibility of making it one entity. ENDS
