UDC launches Ramaotwana promises jobs
16 Jul 2019
Umbrella for Democratic Change (UDC) places its pledge for 100 000 decent jobs at the heart of its 2019 general elections campaign.
When launching Gaborone South parliamentary hopeful, Mr Nelson Ramaotwana UDC deputy leader, Mr Dumelang Saleshando pleaded with the electorate to vote for the coalition movement and afford it the chance to reduce the level of unemployment.
He said when voted into power, the UDC would for the first twelve months lower unemployment rate by using natural resources and minerals that the country was endowed with, to create jobs.
The current leadership, he said had overstayed in power and they had ran short ideas on what to do, to create jobs.
“If you want decent jobs and decent living, entrust your vote with us,” he said.
Mr Saleshando decried the student/teacher ratio of up to 60 students per teacher in some schools, saying, it was the main reason for poor performance in public schools.
“We are going to create jobs for teachers and the pass rates will improve. We want a ratio of 20 students per teacher,” he said.
He said the UDC was endowed with brains that would ensure multiple pathways for jobs creation especially infrastructure development.
Mr Saleshando said roads and rail infrastructure remained a far-fetched dream under the leadership of BDP.
“UDC will construct dual-carriage ways and build rail lines that connect cities and move our goods to other countries,” he said. He said Mr Ramaotwana was the best candidate and had the electorate’s interests at heart.
“Ramaotwana is the most capable to represent your needs because he is a representative of the people in his own right. He is a lawyer,” stated Mr Saleshando.
He described Mr Ramaotwana as trustworthy, humble whose dedication to improving the welfare of Gaborone South residents was unquestionable.
For his part, Mr Ramaotwana called on the constituents to vote for him and the five UDC councillors in the coming general elections.
He said he was the best placed to bring about change in Gaborone South.
He said the constituency remained the most hard hit by poverty and lacked basic amenities as compared to other parts of the city.
When voted, he promised he would advocate for improved healthcare delivery.
Mr Ramaotwana pleaded with voters to read the UDC manifesto which he said was the answer to decent living.
He cited that the minimum wage and old age pension promised in the manifesto as some of the reasons why UDC should be given an opportunity to lead. Ends
