The leader of Alliance for Progressives (AP), Mr Ndaba Gaolathe, says through change of government, the economy can be shaped and be redirected for a progressive Botswana.
Speaking during launch of the aspiring member of parliament for Molepolole South, Mr Shima Monageng and six council candidates, he said change was crucial in order to have a better Botswana that would not self-serving.
“We are saying we are the only alternative government ready to lead Botswana and re-direct its economy, currently in shambles, due to Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) government’ style of leadership,” he said.
Dr Phenyo Butale, AP’s secretary general, urged Molepolole South residents to remain focused and consider Mr Monageng as the only suitable and competent individual who could represent the wish and aspiration of the constituents.
He said AP had potential to ensure a creative multi-billion industry in creative arts through a creative economic policy to create employment opportunities for more Batswana.
“Let us be vigilant and guard against political parties with self-centered leadership, time is now that Batswana brings change by voting AP, as the alternative government,” he said.
He urged electorate in the area to decide on things that could change the lives of Molepolole people.
“We need to be alert on some empty promises made by some politicians which were never fulfilled. BDP has nothing to offer and failed to deliver during period of its reign,” warned Dr Butale.
He further stated that it was important that Batswana guarded against misleading arguments over issues of minimum wages, which he said was a complex matter used by some party members for political millage.
“We promise to set up an income commission to make a determination on the minimum wage, than to take advantage of the current situation of the country and come up with ambiguous figures,” he said.
Women’s league representative, Dr Margaret Nasha, called for change, arguing that BDP overstayed its welcome, adding that it was now abusing power entrusted on them by the electorate.
Mr Monageng said Batswana needed to opt for AP because the party with solutions to Batswana problems.
“We need to have leaders who can best direct, those traits of loyalty, faithfulness, obedience, and be able to serve as servants but not masters”.
He said he had no regrets in taking the decision of turning against the BDP, saying it was a party only serving the interest of the minority and had lost direction, with self-centered kind of leadership. Mr Monageng said it was important that in choosing political representations, people must take into account whether a person could be trusted and whether the individual had a traceable legacy serving the society in various platforms. ends
