16 Jun 2019

President Dr Mokgweetsi Masisi has urged Sefhare/Ramokgonami constituents to vote for Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) prospective parliamentary candidate, Ms Dorcas Makgato, in the general elections.

President Dr Masisi was speaking at the launch of Ms Makgato and prospective council candidates for Sefhare/ Ramokgonami constituency in Chadibe on June 15.

Dr Masisi said Ms Makgato was a hard worker and did every errand that she was assigned to diligently.

He said before Ms Makgato was appointed to the Ministry of Transport and Communications, she was appointed in different ministries where she worked hard.

Ms Makgato was a minister of trade and industry from 2009 to 2014 and from 2014 to 2018 she was appointed the minister of health and wellness.

Ms Makgato was also appointed Minister of Nationality, Immigration and Gender Affairs from April 2018 to December 2018 and she is currently a minister of Transport and Communications.

President Masisi said at the trade ministry, Ms Makgato promoted cooperatives, advocated for control of alcohol sales to curb abuse and promoted SME’s and set up of businesses in homes.

At the ministry of health, she oversaw introduction of treat all- a first in the world and introduced cancer centres across all regions.

At the Ministry of Nationality, Immigration and Gender Affairs, Ms Makgato eradicated excessive backlog of Omang cards, introduced one day visa, visa on arrival and decentralisation of visas to diplomatic missions.

President Masisi said he was not afraid to continue appointing Ms Makgato because she was a rounded individual and proved that she could be trusted, adding that Ms Makgato’s hardwork led to the building of a technical college at Chadibe.

He said he was aware that there was shortage of water in Sefhare/ Ramokgonami constituency and promised the constituents that something would be done to rectify the problem and find permanent solution. He said it was government’s responsibility to avail water to residents because water was a source of life. He said Sefhare/ Ramokgonami villages would be connected to the North South Carrier pipeline.

The BDP government, he said, did not make empty promises.

He said BDP was still the same party that was formed years ago and remained unshaken and would continue delivering services to Batswana.

He said the constituents should not be cowed by the antics of the opposition parties and continue voting for the ruling party.

The Assistant Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, Ms Botlogile Tshireletso, applauded President Dr Masisi for his able leadership, saying she would always support the leadership of President Dr Masisi because he was doing a sterling job.

Ms Tshireletso said Ms Makgato was influential in the construction of Dibete- Mookane- Machaneng road and appealed to the constituents to vote for her.

Other speakers at the political rally included former Member of Parliament for Sefhare/ Ramokgonami constituency Mr Oreeditse Molebatsi, the minister of Agricultural Development and Food Security, Mr Fidelis Molao who showered Ms Makgato with accolades.

For her part, Ms Makgato pleaded with the constituents to vote for her in the general elections so that she could continue serving them.

She said she had worked with the residents well and she would continue to deliver her promises.

She said she always told the residents the truth if government was not able to bring the developments that they had asked for.

She said she made sure that Sefhare residents got a clinic because there was congestion at the Sefhare Primary Hospital, adding that other developments that she pushed for included Ramokgonami police station, which was in the 2020/21 National Development Plan.

Ms Makgato pleaded with the Sefhare/ Ramokgonami constituents to vote for her so that their constituency could be developed, saying the BDP was the only party that could be trusted. ENDS
