BDP remains unshaken resolute - Tsogwane

02 Jun 2019

Acting President, Mr Slumber Tsogwane has urged Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) supporters to remain calm following the recent formation of a new breakaway party from the BDP.

Mr Tsogwane said this when addressing Molepolole South BDP members at a capacity building workshop in Molepolole on June 1.

The acting president said the BDP was still the same and remained unshaken and resolute despite the breakaway party.

“It is neither in our nature nor culture to change party positions,” he stated, adding that BDP was formed on a solid foundation guided by the party constitution and the vision of the country.

With the core values that govern the party, he urged democrats to vote for an individual who shared the same values and principles of the party.

He said every political organisation should be guided by its constitution and challenged other parties to present their party constitutions to the constituents .

He said other parties probably did not have guiding constitutions hence infighting in such parties.

Membership of the BDP, Mr Tsogwane said, was the responsibility of individual members and therefore they should not let others make decisions on their behalf lest they fall prey to empty promises.

Mr Tsogwane guaranteed constituents that water supply to the village as well as other developments such as infrastructure , saying they were included in the National Development Plan 11.

On the North South Carrier project, he said water shortage would be a thing of the past and further stated that government had engaged other countries such as Lesotho to augment water supply to the Southern part of the country.

On other matters, Mr Tsogwane said government was committed to fighting corruption so that culprits may account and ultimately bring back to government coffers, money that had ended up in the pockets of a few.

He cautioned democrats not to be swayed by opposition leaders with their flowery language during campaigns, particularly on topical issues.

He also urged them to recruit new members and preach unity as dictated by the party constitution.

The BDP, he said shunned tribalism in all its facets and concerned itself with issues of concern to the citizenry such as creation of jobs, low wages as well as human wildlife conflict.

Meanwhile, he directed democrats to vote for the BDP in the coming general elections in large numbers.

He said the prospective, parliamentary candidate for Molepolole South, Mr Kabo Morwaeng was a staunch member of the BDP with a lot of experience.

Mr Morwaeng accepted the mandate to represent the BDP. He also welcomed new members to the party who were coming from opposition parties. ENDS
