27 May 2019

Leader of the Alliance for Progressives (AP) Mr Ndaba Gaolatlhe has launched his party’s Molepolole North prospective parliamentary and council candidates .

Officiating at the launch, Mr Gaolathe ushered in prospectve parliamentary candidate,Mr Thuba Koontse to take an oath to represent the purple movement.

Koontse, a former Diplomat and teacher will face current MP for the constituency Mr Mohammed Khan of BNF and BDP’s Mr Oabile Regoeng at the polls in October.

Mr Ndaba Gaolathe warned AP followers to brace themselves for eminent changes in the political landscape come October.

He nevertheless said that he was adamant that Mr Koontse will be part of the surprise package to make it to parliament under the AP ticket after the general elections.

Gaolathe also pointed out that Mr Koontse was a credible leader who had served this country under different portfolios in and outside the country.

He said the prospective candidate was among the founders of Botswana Telecommunications Authority now known as Botswana Communications Regulatory Authority (BOCRA).

Mr Koontse has also served as a diplomat representing Botswana in various missions in different countries.

He also said that he did not dwell on winning elections but rather his party concerned itself with ushering in a new, clean and credible government to steer the country into the right direction.

He stated that at AP they had a vision of a new Botswana, an inclusive Botswana that would build the nation and transform the fortunes of its people.

A Botswana where each and every citizen had access to land, job opportunities and efficient health care systems among others.

He reiterated that there was no country that could succeed if it did not have strong institutions and credible able leaders.

He was quick to dismiss those that say new parties cannot win elections.

He cautioned them saying that instead the opposite was true, adding new parties were the ones that bring valuable change and that newly formed parties have won elections in countries such as France.

Special advisor to AP leader Ms Magret Nasha said AP was the only stable party thus far in this country.

As a result she said instead of bickering and infighting among members as was the case in other political parties, AP members had about a year campaigning  and spreading the AP message in all four corners of the country.

She urged Molepolole North constituents to vote for Mr Koontse saying he was a hard worker and she could attest to that because she once worked with him in government.

She promised constituents that AP had credible leaders who have been trained for positions they are vying for and that they were also trained to always display their best attitude and characters.

For his part, Mr Koontse highlighted specific areas that he would focus on once elected to parliament, among them education which he said needs a total overhaul, student-teacher ratio be reduced to 1: 25.

Also focus would be placed on education that recognises students’ talents.

He also said internal roads in Molepolole were in a bad shape, saying it called for implementation of what government had proposed citing the Metsimotlhabe-Molepolole dual carriage among others.

Furthermore, he said he was concerned by the level of poverty in the village saying it was one of the issues he would address.  Beef farming and agriculture in general , he said were also top in his agenda.

The party will also be field seven council candidates in the constituency. Ends
