Alliance for Progressives (AP) secretary general Dr Phenyo Butale has called on Batswana to support his party, saying it could be trusted with the country’s resources and human capital.
Dr Butale, who is also MP for Gaborone Central, said this when addressing an AP rally in Palapye on March 23.
He said it was time for change of government as the ruling party had been embroiled in internal conflicts, thus was not fit to continue governing this country.
He expressed concern at the rate of corruption taking place in the country, saying his party would continue to combat corruption and call for those involved to account.
He said his party intended to increase salaries of police officers, soldiers and prison officers.
Dr Butale said currently, the disciplined forces were facing shortage of staff houses and the party would rectify that in order for them to do their work effectively.
The secretary general also raised a concern about the failure of Morupule B Power Station, noting that the country’s funds had gone to waste and the country was currently facing shortage of electricity.
He also called on government to re-open the BCL mine to provide employment for Batswana, especially the youth, who are mostly affected by the scarcity of jobs.
He said upon taking reigns of power, AP would upgrade the economy of the country and change the way developments are brought into the country.
Meanwhile, AP Palapye constituency parliamentary hopeful, Mr Gape Motswaledi, said his party was the only one that could improve the lives of Batswana.
He expressed concern that this country’s coffers were being looted and said the funds needed to be traced and brought back into the country’s coffers.
Mr Motswaledi said instead of purchasing booze buses, government should focus on increasing mobile clinics.
He said food rations must also be increased in schools because the numbers of learners have increased.
He said AP would rectify the issue of shortage of equipment and books experienced in schools, adding that schools would be well furnished to make learning environment more conducive.
He said the issue of shortage of teachers’ accommodation in schools would also be rectified.
Mr Motswaledi also raised a concern about the rate of passion killings in Botswana.
He said he was also concerned about the high youth unemployment rate in the country. ends
