Mr Botsalo Ntuane, an additional member of the Botswana Democratic Party (BDP)'s Central Committee, has resigned from his position.
Speaking at a media briefing in Gaborone on February 20, Mr Ntuane, who was deployed as a team leader for observer mission for last year's Democratic Republic of Congo elections, stated that his position in the BDP hindered his chances of deployment by several other non-state entities to pursue his dream.
He said he had been in discussion with non-state entities with a view of joining their data base of resource people, and that one of the requirement insisted by such organisations was for one not to be involved in active politics.
In a letter he read to the media, he said, “As a serving Central Committee member of the ruling party, my occupation of the position hinders my prospects of deployment by non-state entities in question, this withstanding my level of expertise and experience."
He said as an experienced election observer who had performed the duty since 2006, he had observed that competent personnel was needed to fulfil 'such an important function in democratic governance.
Mr Ntuane further stated that he approached the President to seek permission to explore opportunities in the political space, and that the President and other central committee members had given him the blessings and wished him all the goodwill in his endevour to contribute to Africa’s democratic consolidation.
Mr Ntuane was roped in as an additional member after losing the Secretary General position to Mr Mpho Balopi in a congress that was held in Tonota in 2017. Ends
