UDC promises jobs after assuming power

27 Dec 2018

Botswana Congress Party (BCP) vice president, Dr Kesitegile Gobotswang says his party will create over 100 000 jobs in the first 12 months after assuming power.

Dr Gobotswang said this recently when addressing a political rally at Serowe Bus Rank under the Umbrella for Democratic Change ticket.

“We remain firm and clear in our solemn commitment to create 100 000 jobs within the first 12 months of our government in 2019,” he said.

He indicated that they have identified job opportunities in sectors such as agriculture, food processing, mining, mineral processing and sustainable energy and water.

“These jobs will be created within the overarching framework of a living wage of at least P3 000 per month, which is also part of our overall rapid job creation and transformation strategy,” he said.

Dr Gobotswang further said there was need for government to work towards accelerated technical training in order to equip the youth with practical skills.

“We need to prepare our youth to be relevant to the job market.

They need extensive exposure to practical expertise and this can be done in the work field, not in classes,” he said.

He also said there was need to instill a culture of continuous training and identifying the right skills required as well as providing incentives for such skills.

During the rally, Dr Gobotswang also acknowledged the parliamentary candidates for Serowe constituencies, being Mr Keaobaka Kgano for Serowe North, Mr Moremi Mareka for Serowe South and Mr Rolent Gambule for Serowe West. ENDS
