Still no alternative to BDP - Masisi

13 Jun 2018

President Mokgweetsi Masisi says anarchy playing itself out at Umbrella for Democratic Change speaks to the party’s unreadiness to rule.

President Masisi said during a star rally on Tueday ahead of June 16 Moshupa/Manyana constituency by-election therefore that the people of Manyana ought to reject advances by opposition to cajole them  to vote for its candidate.

Moshupa/Manyana constituency fell vacant following Masisi ascent to the highest office in the land on April 1.

President Masisi said Mr Karabo Gare was the only credible candidate with the capability to improve the livelihoods of Moshupa/Manyana constituents.

“I therefore urge you to remain united going into the Saturday bey-election and not allow to be divided by detractors.

Umbrella for Democratic Change is shattered and go into this bey-election as polarised as ever,” he said.

He commended four other Bulela Ditswe contestants; Messrs; Benjamin Mogodi, Boikhutso Disele, Stephen Kganela and Lentswe Mosanako for rallying behind primary elections winner and BDP candidate for Saturday bey-elections’ Mr Gare.

On other issues, President Masisi promised residents of Manyana that gravel road linking their village with Moshupa would be tarred soon.

“I am saying this as head of state,” he assured them.

Botswana Democratic Party campaign manager for Moshupa/Manayana bey-elections, Mr Ngaka Ngaka assured the leadership that his campaign team had put in a lot of hard work and were confident to retain the constituency on Saturday.

“Boo-Manyana have promised us of a landslide victory on Saturday.

Their loyalty to Domkrag, which has advanced their lives over the years remain unshaken,” said Takatokwane lawmaker.

Mr Ngaka’s sentiments were shared by constituency chairperson, Mr Watson Thibelang, who told the democrats that the campaign had been a smooth sailing.

The ruling party’s latest catch, Mr Benjamin Kelepang dismissed as lame reasoning by opposition that BDP should be voted out of power by virtue of having been in the lead since independence.

Such advances, he said, do not hold waters and indeed demonstrate that opposition is not yet ready to assume state power.

Another speaker, Mr Lotty Manyapeza said Mr Gare, ‘an accountant of great repute’ had a proven track record throughout the district.

“Not only is Mr Gare a great accountant, he has a penchant for youth development having taken it upon himself to help young people with their business plans and he has been a star player for a better part of his life and was at some point a chairperson for Kgabosetso, a second division outfit,” he said of societal contributions of the BDP candidate for Saturday bey-elections.

Soliciting votes, Mr Gare thanked fellow Bulela Ditswe contestants for supporting him.

He also pleaded with democrats to go into the Saturday elections in their droves and ensure BDP retain the constituency.

“I am more than ready to serve you,” he told the residents. Ends
