14 May 2018

Umbrella for Democratic Change (UDC) launched Mr Reuben Ketlhoilwe as the council candidate for Moselewapula ward in Francistown over the weekend.

The bye-election will be held May 19, where Mr Ketlhoilwe will be running against Mr Gilbert Boikhutso of Botswana Democratic Party and Mr Odirileng Ditshotlo of Alliance for Progressives.

During the launch on May 12, Mr Ketlhoilwe said if he wins the election he intends to embark on a number of projects for the community, which include turning the clinic currently operating in Gerald Estates into a primary hospital that will be able to accommodate the entire Gerald Estates community as well as advocate for a senior secondary school within Moselewapula ward.

He further added that he considers himself a suitable replacement as he is a hardworking and committed individual who has worked for the community and achieved many things.

UDC chairperson, Mr Motlatsi Molapisi encouraged teamwork and the spirit of togetherness among party members, adding that it is the responsibility of all members to ensure that challenges faced by the party do not hinder its growth moving forward.

Mr Molapisi further added that it is the responsibility of every member under the umbrella to ensure that the UDC project is a success.

He also encouraged voters to be cautious of who they vote for to represent them.

Botswana National Front national chairperson, Ms Abigail Mogalakwe encouraged Batswana to take their right to vote seriously and urged Moselewapula residents to vote for a candidate that would represent them the way they want to be represented.

“Vote for someone who is eager to put your needs before his own.

The situation in Moselewapula can be addressed by a council candidate who is committed to the people,” she said.

The deputy leader of UDC, Mr Dumelang Saleshando echoed his concerns over the lack of employment for Batswana and the low minimum wages in the country, adding that it is important for voters to vote for candidates who will work to address such issues.

He further urged residents of Moselewapula to elect a candidate who is determined to work for the people. ENDS
