Government concerned and disappointment at statement attributed to BOPEU

09 Apr 2018

Government notes with concern and disappointment a statement attributed to BOPEU in an article published at page 9 of Mmegi Newspaper of Friday April 6, 2018 titled “Gov’t disappoints ‘ally’ BOPEU”.

Directorate of Public Service Management (DPSM) wishes to inform the public that the article’s allegation that Government announced the three per cent inflationary adjustment without consulting BOPEU is not true.

As a concerned party, we wish to further clarify that indeed the initial salary negotiations at which a proposal of 6.6 per cent was tabled by the unions, did not reach a conclusion.

However, on Monday March 26, 2018 at the instance of BOPEU and other unions, the Directorate of Public Service Management met with BOPEU and the other unions for the sole purpose of negotiating further so as to reach conclusion of the salary negotiations.

A conclusion was reached following which a concluding statement was drafted and executed by the parties, BOPEU included, in terms of which the unions accepted the three per cent inflationary adjustment as reflected in attached documents.

DPSM thus confirms that Directive No. 1 of 2008 dated March 28, 2018 was published after negotiations with the unions had been concluded and a concluding statement duly executed by all the concerned parties. BGCIS
