BDP to continue eradicating poverty

President Lt General Dr Seretse Khama Ian Khama says recent statistics indicate that unemployment and poverty levels have declined.
Speaking at the party’s 56th National Council in Gaborone yesterday, he said while the country had made commendable progress , it was evident that the country still had needy people.
He said BDP had a task to continue with programmes aimed at eradicating poverty and ‘significantly’ reducing unemployment.
President Khama said the country continued to enjoy positive ratings from global institutions such as being the least corrupt country in Africa.
He further observed that the BDP had been and would continue to be good custodians of the country.
President Khama also commended party members, candidates and electoral board for a successful first round of Bulela Ditswe.
He said the remaining 39 constituencies whose primaries would be held in August this year must follow primary election rules as well as engage in honest and clean campaigns.
The party chairperson, who is also Vice President Mr Mokgweetsi Masisi promised to keep the party intact . Speaking at the council in Gaborone over the weekend, Mr Masisi promised to keep growing the party as well as keeping it together the way it was handed to him.
Mr Masisi further noted that the BDP’s annual national council gave the party an opportunity to introspect, take stock and chart the way forward respecting party policies.
He said it also provideed an appropriate platform for the party to reaffirm its collective commitment to leading Batswana and improving their lives.ENDS
