BMD elects new committee in Lobatse

05 Dec 2017

Botswana Movement for Democracy (BMD) held a special congress in Lobatse over the weekend on the recommendation of the national executive committee of the UDC following the Bobonong congress earlier this year.

The Lobatse congress retained Bobonong elected national executive committee, and all were unopposed.

The new committee comprises of Advocate Sidney Pilane as leader, Dr Tlamelo Mmatli as vice president, Mr Nehemiah Modubule as chairperson and Gilbert Mangole as secretary general.

Deputy secretary general is Ms Tseleng Botlhole, treasure general is Mr Percy Bakwena, deputy treasurer general is Mr Simon Senkhu, national policy director is Ms Christine Ramakhubu.

Officially opening the congress, Mr Modubule said members should remember why they joined the BMD and no other political organisation.

He said the organisation was founded in response to the alarming concerns of wanton non compliance in the ruling party.

He said it was disappointing that the same problem was surfacing at BMD where members trampled on the constitution.

Mr Modubule said it was important that members should understand how a political party was run, and that those who wished to join BMD do so with the desire to interact with fellow members with respect to the constitution.

Mr Modubule said BMD was not a haphazard social unit for convenience or play time.

He said the organisation was serious with well-defined principles and structures, and that all should abide by the aims of BMD as set out in the constitution.

He also said all members should respect the constitution and structures of the party.

He urged party members to desist from tarnishing the party on social media whilst claiming to be loyal.

He said such behaviour was what led to the differences and unruly behaviour in Bobonong.

He also cautioned party members that their actions reflected on the UDC which they were working together towards 2019. BOPA
