Unity Powerful weapon towards victory

Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) deputy secretary general, Mr Shaw Kgathi says party unity is a powerful tool towards victory in the coming general elections. 

Mr Kgathi, who is also Minister of Justice, Defence and Security and Member of Parliament for Bobirwa, said in a brief interview with the media on the sidelines of Letswapo BDP regional meeting addressed by President Lt Gen. Dr Seretse Khama Ian Khama that besides the opposition challenge, unity was the biggest enemy of the BDP. 

He said if the party is not united, it would be difficult to disseminate party mandate and programmes to the masses. 

He also said at a BDP gathering at Mosikari Junior Secondary School for Letswapo region that the gathering was meant to resuscitate party structure at regional level.  

Mr Kgathi said after the BDP Mmadinare congress, President Khama made it a point to visit the party regional structures to insure that they were functional. 

He said the gatherings were meant to appeal to party members to continuously engage one another and the general public on the mandate of the party.

He said the regional structures were paramount in insuring survival and visibility of the party throughout the country.

Mr Kgathi also added that it was vital for the party to prepare well on time towards the coming general elections. 

Party structures were urged to spread the party mandate and be in a position to share with the people programmes and initiatives aimed at empowering and uplifting the livelihoods of Batswana.

He said based on the outcome of such gatherings, he was confident that BDP was ready to contest the 2019 general elections. 

The meeting was attended by among others, Vice President and party chairperson, Mr Mokgweetsi Masisi, health and wellness minister, who is also Sefhare/Ramokgonami MP, Ms Dorcas Makgato, land management, water and sanitation services minister, Mr Prince Maele and Assistant Minister of Basic Education, Mr Moiseraele Goya.
