Councillors must avoid party colours
27 Jun 2013
Councilors have been discouraged from wearing political party colours during council meetings.
Addressing Hukuntsi Sub-district Council meeting, chairperson, Mr Milton Moseru said councillors should illustrate their fair representation of the community they served regardless of their political status. Mr Moseru noted that councillors should always put the interests of the electorates at heart during council meetings rather than concentrating on their political party mandates.
He cautioned councillors to distinguish between a scheduled council meeting and a political rally. He urged them to work cohesively towards empowering the citizenry despite their political background and differences.
Mr Moseru said the community entrusted councillors to be their voices on issues of service delivery and developments for the betterment of their living standards adding that they should collectively strive to ensure successful implementation of development programmes and policies.
He further stated that funds amounting to P614 000 had been disbursed to Hukuntsi Sub-district for the purchasing of livestock for remote area communities, noting that beneficiaries would be granted the opportunity to choose between small stock and cattle.
“Livestock procurement is ongoing and beneficiaries will be given 15 goats and one billy goat and four beneficiaries’ per settlement will be given five cattle per family.” Mr Moseru however stated that there was still a significant shortage of water for RADs livestock due to inadequate boreholes and frequent breakdowns as well as low yields of available ones.
He also indicated that eight bakery projects continued to operate successfully in the sub-district and were given a start-up capital of P2 500. He said 14 sewing projects beneficiaries had competed training at Jwaneng Technical College and were to start their projects as soon as the equipment was availed to them. Ends
