Kgalagadi south DHMT acts to ease congestion

Kgalagadi South District Health Management Team (DHMT) has resolved to transfer some medical services from Tsabong Primary Hospital outpatient department to the clinic to ease congestion.
The services to be transferred with effect from July this year would include eye, child welfare, antenatal and postnatal clinics. Addressing the Tsabong Sub-district Council meeting, the chairmperson, Mr Samuel Brooks urged the DHMT to rationalise resources to realise the goal.
He, however, explained that DHMT had experienced a setback of two doctors from Tsabong and Middlepits, who resigned in May and June this year. “This will undoubtedly put a strain on our manpower before the two doctors are replaced,” Mr Brooks said.
He informed the councillors that the Ministry of Health (MoH) had assumed the responsibility of maintaining health facilities from Department of Buildings and Engineering Services (DBES) starting April this year. Though the ministry had assumed maintenance of their own facilities from DBES, Mr Brooks appealed for cooperation between the two departments to render a smooth takeover.
On other health issues, the chairperson reported that there was an unsatisfactory take up of safe male circumcision (SMC) in the district. From 2009 to date, he said, only 594 males were circumcised as opposed to the annual target of 500.
However, the DHMT was carrying out the SMC campaign to schools and so far 37 students from Tsabong and Maubelo were circumcised in March and April this year.
The campaign would continue during school holidays and will cover the whole Sub District from June 24 to July 6, this year, he said. ENDS
