Tlokweng constituency independent parliamentary candidate, Ms Shirley Segokgo has pledged to donate half of her monthly parliamentary salary to the constituency.

Ms Segokgo said this on Thursday during a press conference which was aimed at launching her candidature.

She said this would facilitate community projects in the village and added that she had a long history of being involved with community work.

Ms Segokgo stated that she would work hard towards empowering young people if elected to the position.

She further promised to have a platform which would be empowering the community such as youth constituency committee, women’s committee and parliamentary committee.

The independent parliamentary candidate further stated that there was need to come up with new ideas to address problems which young people were facing.

She said the levels of unemployment rate called for introspection and added that young people needed to be empowered to be self-reliant.

Ms Segokgo further stated that there was no easy way to resolving the issue of Tlokweng land adding that Batlokwa would be the first tribe to run out of land in the country.

“It is a complex issue, but at the same time it needs us working together,” she said and added that the issue could not be resolved in freedom squares.

She noted that judging from her campaign and experience she was the ideal candidate to advance youth interests, adding that her campaign was technology orientated while her competitors had opted for the traditional methods.

She further stated that the conviction to stand for the parliamentary elections was not an easy one, as most people were not used to such brave decisions makers.

Ms Segokgo noted that most of the people in the area were heeding her campaign message but noted that some were too scared to be associated with her, fearing victimisation from their parties.

She further promised a clean campaign trail adding that residents of Tlokweng knew all the three candidates better.

She will be facing Mr Masego Segokgo of UDC and Mr Elijah Katse of BDP. BOPA
