07 May 2017
Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) secretary general, Mr Botsalo Ntuane says the party is preparing for the upcoming party primary elections ahead of the 2019 general elections in all constituencies.
In an interview on May 6, on the sidelines of the Gaborone regional meeting for party structures, Mr Ntuane said the party was holding the regional meeting for the third time in Gaborone to strengthen and assess the effectiveness of regional structures.
“You may recall that during the 2014 general elections, out of the five constituencies in Gaborone, we only retained one, hence we need to work hard here in Gaborone,” he said.
Mr Ntuane said the party was also preparing to hold primary elections scheduled for October this year in all the 19 constituencies they lost to the opposition in 2014.
In this regard, he said it was crucial that they conducted checks and balances in the party structures well on time.
The meeting was addressed by President Lt Gen. Dr Seretse Khama Ian Khama, accompanied by Vice President, also chairperson of the party, Mr Mokgweetsi Masisi, some central committee members and delegates of the Gaborone region party structures. ENDS
