13 Mar 2017

The Vice President, also chairperson of Botswana Democratic Party (BDP), Mr Mokgweetsi Masisi has  urged party members to recruit new members to the party .

Mr Masisi who is also Member of Parliament for Moshupa/Manyana constituency encouraged Batswana to vote for BDP as only Batswana had power to put BDP into power.

He was officially opening BDP south west region congress in Jwaneng on Saturday.

Mr Masisi who welcomed 37 new members into the Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) in Jwaneng , urged them to work for the party and continue with the recruitment drive towards winning the 2019 general elections.

Mr Masisi urged BDP members to welcome new members with open arms and induct them into the party, include them in the party events and activities, also requiring them to go and recruit even more new members.

He said Botswana still remained a country where peace, tranquillity and unity prevailed because of BDP’s able leadership.

He said the BDP government availed many assistance programmes to uplift the livelihoods of Batswana.

The Vice President encouraged democrats in south west region to rally behind the party’s leadership, adding that there is still no alternative party to the BDP that could  take the country forward.

Mr Masisi said only through unity with the  BDP rallying behind candidates who won the party’s primary elections, BDP could continue to not only retain its strongholds but also win areas that were known to be opposition strongholds.

He criticised some Batswana who misuse social media to send negative messages about the ruling party.

He said the purpose of social media is to disseminate valid information about programmes, education, businesses, developments and how to create employment.

He said Batswana should follow the constitution of Botswana and also they have the right of freedom of expression but they should not undermine the law and respect each other.

Mr Masisi also noted that he had submitted his name to be elected again for the chairmanship of the  party and requested fellow democrats to vote for him. He added that he has the ability and responsibility to lead Batswana fairly and equally.

Earlier, Ms Botlogile Tshireletso Member of Parliament for Mahalapye East who accompanied the party chairperson said all BDP members were equal and they should respect each other and that cooperation and unity is the key to sustain the party.

She requested democrats to revive BDP committees in various constituencies.

She encouraged them to register members and do  house to house campaigns.

She said recruitment drive is a big issue which needs BDP members to be determined and trustworthy. She said they should love their party with all their hearts and mind.

She  also urged them  to use social media to campaign for the party.

Ranaka former councillor Mr Andrew Mopipi encouraged democrats to support those who won in the primary elections.

He also appealed to them to use social media to advocate and promote the party. ENDS
