08 Mar 2017

Elections to select committee members of Bobirwa Mmadinare and Selebi Phikwe (BOMASE) region of the Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) went well recently.

Speaking in an interview with Bobonong constituency secretary Ms Florah Basiame, she said Bobonong constituency hosted the elections and they went well.

Ms Basiame stated that during the elections there was a spirit of camaraderie among the democrats who took part in the elections stating that the committee would serve for two years and prepare for upcoming general elections in 2019.

Ms Basiame indicated that BOMASE region was made of four constituencies being Bobonong, Mmadinare and Selebi Phikwe East and west.

She stated that elections were the will of the people and those elected to the six positions must serve the party diligently and ensure that the party wins the four constituencies in 2019 general elections.

However she stated that committee members would also succeed if democrats in the four constituencies give them the much needed support for the success of the organisation.

Ms Basiame was hopeful that the committee would work hand in hand with BDP members to ensure that it retains the constituencies and win those in the hands of opposition.

For the position of chairman nominated councillor Mr Thatayaone Segona won after beating his counterparts being Mr Thatayotlhe Ditirwa and Ms Mapula Mathole.

Another nominated councillor Mr Kgomotso Mmereki won the position of deputy chairman beating Mr Kago Motsemme while Mr Abraham Chakalisa retained the region secretary unopposed also Mr Boitshepho Mosebola was also unopposed for the post of deputy secretary.

The treasury position went to Mr Jahnnie Mosokwa while councillor Botokanyana Mosweunyana is his deputy.

Ms Basiame lamented that outgoing region chairman Mr Oabile Moupi who did not contest elections said in 2016 the  party members in the four constituencies did not work as a team and was hopeful that the new committee would work hard to ensure that the party wins the constituencies and wards.
