Mavengwa at helm of BDP youth wing
12 Feb 2017
President Lt Gen. Dr Seretse Khama Ian Khama has tasked the newly elected BDP youth league committee to make sure that the party wins the upcoming Tlokweng by-elections.
Furthermore, the committee must, within a week, present to him its plans for the year 2017.
President Khama made the orders in Tsabong on Friday, where he addressed young democrats prior to their leadership elections, which were held on Saturday (February 11).
The President stressed that it was important for the new committee to hit the ground running because Botswana Democratic Party intended to fight for the Tlokweng constituency with all its might.
He advised them to make it a point that they elected people who would drive the mandate of the party into the committee.
Furthermore, he reminded the youth that in a democratic set up, some people would lose the positions they contend for, saying when that happened, they must accept the results and support the winners.
He pointed out that by accepting the results, they would be showing signs of maturity and that would help in building the party.
The President congratulated Vice President, Mr Mokgweetsi Masisi for the good work of recruiting new members from opposition parties, reminding the democrats that it was everyone’s duty to do so.
Meanwhile, Mr Simon Mavenga has been voted the new BDP youth league chairperson while Mr Vuyo Nothani was unopposed in the vice chairperson position. Mr Thabo Autlwetse won the secretary general post. Mr Kgakileng was voted treasurer while Mr Fox Segwai was unopposed in the vice secretary position. ENDS
