Rasesa by-election candidates pledge to serve residents

10 Feb 2017

After the passing of Seasebeng Monyake late last year, the Rasesa by-election follows this Saturday where BDP and BCP’s fate for the ward will be decided by voters.

Speaking to BOPA in an interview, BDP candidate Mr Daniel Molokwe said should he be elected , he would tackle issues of youth unemployment which was worrisome in the village.

He added that he would help the youth utilise government programmes more so he had realised that some of them needed guidance and support for them to realise their dreams.

He said many were roaming the streets but all they needed was help on how to go about the programmes especially the Youth Development Fund which could enable them to go into income generating projects that could create further employment for other youths.

Mr Molokwe also said he was worried that the social welfare and community development programmes were not carried out according to the policy and he was going to make sure that residents benefited from them. He said he had realised that many people who could be assisted were left out.

Mr Molokwe said he would closely work with the Village Development Committee to come up with ways of making money so that they developed the village. He said since they were the once responsible for village development they could make money and use where they felt  was much needed. He said he had seen it work in other countries where villages were developed by the villagers themselves instead of relying on government. Mr Molokwe said Rasesa residents knew his capability and ability to serve them and he deserved to be elected to lead them for the next two years prior to the 2019 general elections.

For his part, BCP  candidate , who is contesting under the UDC banner, Mr Tshenolo Buisanyang said he was ready and confident that he had done enough campaign and the decision was upon the voters to win him the Rasesa council seat.Mr Buisanyang said for the last 50 years Rasesa councillors made promises which had not been fulfilled and the village was not developed to the satisfactory rate considering its historical monument which could have generated enough money as a tourist attraction site.

He also said for the past 20 years,  Rasesa’ s internal roads had not been developed  but a Rasesa development trust  could be used to generate money and function as a centre for tourist attraction that will make income for the village development and create employment.

He further said if elected, he would ensure villagers took part in the famous Matsieng air show that was hosted in Rasesa annually .He said he would ask the organisers to consider allowing small businesses in the village to set up a stall where they could sell their products and doing that would empower the youth who were already in businesses.

Mr Buisanyang said the village development committee had been handed grabble pits along the A1 road which now collected a lot of water which they could use to sell and make money to develop their village.  ENDS
