IEC ready for Rasesa bye election
10 Feb 2017
The Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) has reported that all is in place for the Rasesa council bye elections scheduled for tomorrow ( February 11)
Speaking in an interview with BOPA, IEC principal election officer Mr Gakenosi Motswarakgole said they have been readying for the event since the beginning of last month.
He said that only two candidates were registered from the Botswana Democratic Party and Botswana Congress Party and had been engaged and briefed on what was expected of them.
Mr Motshwarakgole said voters who had lost or damaged their 2014 voting cards should come forth and make duplicates so that they could vote on the day, adding that only 2014 general election registered voters were eligible to vote.
A total of 1 918 voters are expected to cast their vote.
Mr Motshwarakgole said 1 658 voted in 2014, 1 635 of which were valid while 23 were spoilt.
He therefore encouraged voters to come and vote in large numbers and elect leader of their choice.
The council bye election for Rasesa comes after the death of BDP's Ms Seasebeng Monyake who passed on last year in a car accident.ENDS
