Government regrets DRC elections postponement

Government has expressed regret at failure by the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) to hold elections this year as per the constitutional requirements of that country.
A statement from the Ministry of International Affairs and Cooperation, said Botswana stated that it did not fully understand reasons why elections in the DRC were postponed.
Government said this act by the government of the DRC went against the spirit and objective of consolidating the democratic ideals espoused by SADC.
It further appealed to all concerned parties in the DRC to refrain from acts that might threaten peace and stability in that country.
“To this end, we urge all the concerned stakeholders to the political process in the Democratic Republic of Congo to respect and adhere to their constitutional obligations, that should guide the electoral process in this regard,” the statement said. ENDS
