UDC leader urges new members to work hard
16 Nov 2016
The leader of the Umbrella for Democratic Change (UDC) has encouraged the newly recruited members to work harder to grow the party.
Mr Duma Boko said this when welcoming 66 new members into UDC at a political rally in Motokwe recently.
The UDC leader said opposition parties have in the past tried to wrestle power from the ruling party but they did not produce the desired results, meaning there was need to inject a fresh verve into these efforts.
Mr Boko said such could be achieved with the assistance of the new members, adding that the reason the electorates they were welcoming defected from the ruling party indicated that they had given up hope on it and were eager for change.
On other issues, Mr Boko who is also the Leader of Opposition in Parliament accused government of paying workers ‘peanuts’ despite working under difficult conditions. He said that in this economic era no worker should be earning less than P2 000 as this is equal to undermining them.
He said pensioners in other countries like Lesotho are earning enough to sustain themselves and their families, while locally the reverse was true. people depend on ipelegeng programme.
He said living below the poverty datum line is very difficult for their families as life nowadays is tough.
Mr Boko also implored the electorates to take sports as a career as it has the potential to enrich a person, citing internationally acclaimed athletes such as Usain Bolt whom he said lives out of athletics.
For his part, Councilor for Mabutsane-Morwamosu Mr Tuelo Zulu told his audience that the BDP leadership tried numerous times to recruit him to their party, but that he refused each time.
He said this was because what he wants is to fight for the rights of Batswana, something he said cannot be achieved while one is in the ruling party. BOPA
