President Lt Gen. Dr Seretse Khama Ian Khama has sent his condolences to the Kgannyeng family after the death of their son who was also a councillor for Tsabong North under the Botswana Democratic Party ticket.
When reading the message from the President to multitudes that came to bid the late Mr Mmuso Kgannyeng fairwell, Ms Mmapula Phuduhudu said President Khama and BDP followers were deeply touched by the loss of one of the promising young cadres.
Earlier on November 11, the Vice President, Mr Mokgweetsi Masisi also made an appearance at the Kgannyeng's family homestead to pass his condolences and offer support to the bereaved family.
He urged BDP enthusiasts to honour the late councillor by making sure that they keep the ward under the BDP ticket.
Most of the people who spoke during the funeral described the late councillor as a humble, hard working person who was open to criticism and always seeking to see reason when debating motions, putting aside party affiliations.
The area Member of Parliament, Mr Frans Van de Westhuizen pointed out that the nature of politics dictates that when there is a vacant post, it should be filled, but urged all those seeking to do so to allow the family some time and chance to mourn before they can start with their campaigns.
Kgalagadi Ditrict Council chairperson, Mr Justice Nkwane described the deceased as a hard worker and reliable when assigned duties
He said it was saddening to have lost “such a young soul miraculously” because just two days before he died, he was assigned some duties where he was representing the council and he carried them out diligently without complaining or showing any signs of ill health.
For his part, BDP branch chairperon for Kgalagadi South, Mr Samuel Brooks said instead of mourning, friends and family should celebrate the life and achievements of the late Kgannyeng who did the unthinkable in the past general elections to take the ward from the opposition which held it for 15 years. ends
