President Khama praises Masisi
08 Nov 2016
President Lt Gen. Dr Seretse Khama Ian Khama has commended Moshupa/Manyana constituents for electing a visionary leader who is passionate about developing them.
He was speaking at the Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) victory celebration of the MP for Moshupa/Manyana, Mr Mokgweetsi Masisi in Moshupa on Saturday (November 5). Mr Masisi emerged victorious during the 2014 general elections.
President Khama said during the 2014 general elections, voters showed confidence in BDP and urged them to continue voting for the party in the 2019 general elections.
He said the BDP was the only party that has the welfare of Batswana at heart, hence its efforts in coming up with noble initiatives to improve lives of the less privileged members of society.
He called on Batswana to maintain peace and tranquility that prevail in the country.
President Khama also cautioned democrats not to discriminate against each other, saying they should instead have a heart and help one another.
He appealed to them to work hard to recruit more people into the party, saying he was on the way to start a strong campaign team for the next elections.
President Khama also criticised opposition parties, saying they have a tendency to dismiss the BDP’s economic empowerment programmes as nothing but a strategy to gain political mileage.
He said opposition parties were well known for promising Batswana the impossible without providing any solutions and for insulting ruling party members.
He said opposition parties leaders were fighting for positions and constituencies in their united party and were full of hatred.
For his part, Vice President Masisi thanked all those who voted for him in the last general elections, and advised them to keep the spirit of loving and trustworthy.
He said he was proud of them because they have shown trust in him and encouraged them to work tirelessly for the party to develop the constituency. He also congratulated his family and relatives who stood behind him at all times.
Mr Masisi donated a combi to Bikwe settlement to be used to transport school pupils to and from the school. He also gave President Khama a cow as a present.
Earlier, BDP members Mr Lotty Manyapedza and Dr Ditiro Majadibodu said they left opposition parties to join BDP upon realisation that BDP was a visionary party.
They admitted having been lost while in opposition parties, adding that they were now in the right place. They said they made up their mind to join the BDP because it remained the only party with sensible policies that had graduated most Batswana from abject poverty.
They accused opposition party members for fighting over positions and insulting each other including ruling party members.
The party welcomed new members including councillors from the opposition Umbrella for Democratic Change (UDC). ENDS
