Botswana Congress Party (BCP) leader, Mr Dumelang Saleshando, has encouraged members of his party to have a selfless spirit that will change politics of the country.

Addressing a BCP congress in Shakawe over the weekend, Mr Saleshando advised BCP members to grow the party by recruiting more members.

He said they should take example of the late Okavango MP, Mr Joseph Kavindama whom he said committed all the years of his productive life to advocating for the rights of the people he represented.

“He passionately and without fear or favour spoke against all policies that were not in favour of his constituents and advocated for development projects that they needed,” he said.

Mr Saleshando said it was up to the members to be prepared and use their own resources to travel to different parts of the country with the sole mission of recruiting new members.

“Do we have a leadership that can look the electorate in the eye and assert that they have remained faithful to their chosen course and have never had to betray their own conscience by taking decisions that were based on advancement of personal interests,” he asked rethorically.

On another issues, Mr Saleshando said BCP and Umbrella for Democratic Change ()UDC) had signed a memorandum of agreement on bye elections, which stated among others, that the two political formations would not contest against each other.

He also said the different structures of the BCP and UDC should be encouraged to conduct joint campaign activities.

However, he said the talks were scheduled to begin in April this year, but they had not commenced because their partners had requested to address ‘’housekeeping issues’. ENDS
