BCP launches Kelemogile candidate
20 Jun 2016
Opposition parties in Ramotswa have been urged to join hands in support of a Botswana Congress Party (BCP) candidate for Kelemogile ward bye-election.
Speaking at launch of the BCP candidate, Ms Seitiso Ditlhong on June 18, Mr Saleshando urged voters to work together to ensure a win.
He said retaining the ward would be a clear demonstration to Batswana that opposition parties were serious in uniting towards ousting the Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) in the next general elections.
He said fielding a female candidate would bring hope to residents because she was vibrant and youthful with the potential to restore hope to the constituents.
Mr Saleshando said it was important for Batswana to trust the decision of forming a coalition and emphasised the need for Batswana to have trust on the project, saying people should not be discouraged by its previous failures.
Meanwhile, leader of the Umbrella for Democratic Change, Mr Duma Boko, called on opposition party members to remain focused and not be distracted from their good intention of preparing for taking over reign from the BDP.
He advised opposition members to understand the fact that opposition parties were faced with challenges that would continue to see individual members opting for individual gain.
Mr Boko, who is also the leader of the Botswana National Front, called on opposition party members to protect the good image of the opposition parties and stand against any forms of destructions aimed at destabilising unity among them.
He called on electorates to vote for BCP candidate to retain the ward.
Meanwhile, Member of Parliament for Ramotswa, Mr Samuel Rantuana dismissed as misleading, rumours that he was intending to joint BDP.
“I do not have any intention to betray the people who elected me into this position as well as the BCP. I promise to remain loyal to what I believe in and cannot be shaken by anything to betray the struggle,” he said.
The Kelemogile ward bye-election slated for July 16 was called after the death of the BCP councillor, Mr Molemi Rakgomo.
The ward is being contested by Ms Ditlhong and Mr Best Mosadi of BDP. ENDS
