Khama welcomes Arone

19 Jun 2016

Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) leader, President Lt Gen. Dr Seretse Khama Ian Khama on June 18, welcomed Okavango Member of Parliament and hitherto a member of the Botswana Congress Party (BCP), Mr Bagalatia Arone during a politically rally in Ramotswa.

Mr Arone was unveiled during the launch of Kelemogile ward bye election council candidate Mr Best Mosadi.

President Khama said his party was targeting to win the upcoming bye-election from Botswana Congress Party (BCP) which won Kelemogile ward during the 2014 general elections.

He said the party was confident of reclaiming the ward during the bye-election and subsequently the constituency in 2019 during the general elections.

Therefore he encouraged the democrats to work towards restoring the party in the area and said Mr Mosadi was the best candidate to launch the BDP come back.

For his part, the new party member, Mr Arone said he was proud to be associated with the ruling BDP from the opposition.

Mr Arone said “it is the will of God for the ruling party to be in its position”  and said those in the opposition were opposing the will of God.

Further, he encouraged the Kelemogile ward residents to vote for Mr Mosadi saying the opposition could not be trusted with power as they were fragmented.

The  BDP secretary general Mr Botsalo Ntuane said there was no party which cared for its people as the BDP did.

He said under the BDP, Batswana enjoyed free education from primary school up to tertiary school level, something which he said did not happen in other countries.

Further, he added that the health care system in Botswana was almost free as patients paid P5 to be treated for all sicknesses in government facilities.

He added that government had also developed economic empowerment programmes such as CEDA and has food baskets for the disadvantaged and old age pension for the elderly.

Therefore, Mr Ntuane said Ramotswa residents ought to “correct the mistake that you committed in 2014 during the general elections when you voted for the opposition.”

For his part, Mr Mosadi encouraged the BDP members to vote for the party on July 16 during the bye election.

He said as an educationist, he was used to working with both the young and elderly and he further promised to serve the Kelemogile ward residents.

He said he had also worked with people with disabilities and he promised to continue to be their advocate. ENDS
