BDP intensifies recruitment drive

06 Jun 2016

Recruiting from opposition ranks is the best strategy for Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) to prepare for the 2019 general elections.

The Vice President, also BDP chairperson, Mr Mokgweetsi Masisi said  this over the weekend when addressing a political rally in Kanye where the party welcomed new members from opposition parties.

He urged democrats to forge ahead with the recruitment drive. The Moshupa lawmaker said BDP was the only solution to problems besieging the nation.
It should be upon this background that Kanye South electorates change their voting pattern and ditch Botswana National Front, he said.

The BDP chairman pleaded with new recruits to work with fellow democrats, exercise high integrity in carrying the party forward and make it a sellable commodity.
“Contrary to misconceptions doing the rounds, BDP does not lure people with money into its rank and file,” he said warning recruits not to perceive Domkrag as a platform to seek positions.

Mr Masisi said recruits’ primary purpose should be to sell the party and ensure it remained relevant through hard work and cooperation with fellow democrats.
For his part, former minister and BDP elder, Mr Peter Siele commended the BDP-led government for its spirited efforts to stimulate the economy; an initiative he said wiould touch the socio-economic lives of Batswana through employment creation.

He said with an array of poverty eradication programmes, no Motswana would die of hunger. Programmes such as ISPAAD, LIMID and many others, he said, attested to government’s spirited fight to oust abject poverty by end of 2017.

One of the recruits from Botswana Movement for Democracy (BMD), Mr Kabo Sekwai assured the democrats that his mission was to bring many along with him.
He concurred with Mr Masisi in dismissing  Umbrella for Democratic Change (UDC) project as a non-starter with nothing to offer Batswana.

Another recruit, Mr Pule Letebele said contrary to widely held believe in some circles, opposition politics were merely politics of the stomach with nothing to offer to the nation. Ends
