DCEC refutes newspaper allegations

10 May 2016

DCEC has refuted allegations that were published on Sunday Standard of May 8 under the headline: The Diary of a DCEC Officer.

According to the rebuttal from the public relations officer, Mr Phakamile Kraai,  the letter written by Johnson Davids (Not his real name) is malicious and misleading and is intended to tarnish both the DCEC and the director general in particular.

The press release states that if there was any truth in the allegations, the writer would have reported the allegations to the Botswana Police Service for investigations and not to publish them in the newspaper.

It continues to say the newspaper furthermore should have cared to get the view of those implicated in the allegations to get their side of the story and not to publish the anonymous letter without establishing the facts.

The public relations officer notes that it is false and misleading to state that Ms Anele Ncube has been transferred to Corruption Prevention Division and it is also false that Ms Ncube studied in Malaysia.

It says, Ms Ncube did her studies in Singapore under the sponsorship of the Singapore scholarship and not Malaysia as stated by the author.

“It is also false and malicious that P35 000 from operational funds was transferred into her account to clear her debt” says the statement adding that DCEC operational vehicles are in full use and not parked as alleged.

The statement also states that it is not only false but malicious that a cheque of P150 000 was written in the name of Rose Seretse and that some monies were transferred into her account.

‘The writer is therefore asked to prove these allegations’, the press releases says adding that this is a personal attack on the director general.

The writer has stated that “I am a wounded buffalo, in my wounding was Rose Seretse, the supposed protector of mine” this is a clear demonstration that the writer is out to attack the integrity of both the DCEC and Director General Mrs. Rose Seretse.

The statement continues to say for the record the director general has never suffered nor is suffering from any financial lack, even during the time of her late husband’s ailment.

The press release assures the public that DCEC shall continue to carry out its duties and mandate with the highest professionalism, integrity and advises the public that DCEC is not above the law and any wrong doing should be reported to any law enforcement agency for appropriate investigation.

It also states that it is not in the nature of the DCEC to respond to opinion articles but find it necessary to set the record straight. ENDS
