President wants hard work at branches
06 Mar 2016
The President, Lt Gen. Dr Seretse Khama Ian Khama, has appealed to democrats to put their house in order at constituency branches.
Addressing the Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) North East region in Tutume on Saturday, President Khama said though they had managed to win all the four constituencies in the area, they lost seven of the 36 council wards.
Therefore, he said this called for change in the way they did things at the branches.
He said if all the democrats could mobilise members to cast their votes, the party could win general elections by a 70 per cent margin not the 47 per cent they scored during the 2014 general elections. President Khama urged party structures at regions to have a calendar outlining their activities aimed at building the party and fostering unity among BDP members.
He also encouraged democrats to fund raise for the party as that could bring members together and strengthen team spirit.
Furthermore, he urged them to organise and hold workshops and invite their leaders to share with them more on government programmes so that they could also help spread the information geared towards improving the livelihood of Batswana.
The President advised democrats not to live under the believe that 2019 was still far, adding that it was time to be up in arms with their campaign strategies, going around doing house to house campaigns and recruiting new members.
The party chairman, who is also the Vice President, Mr Mokgweetsi Masisi, said democrats must know their party and why they were members of the BDP because in that way they would be in better position to understand and explain their mandate to Batswana.
Mr Masisi further urged them to be conversant with BDP manifesto because in that way they would be able to deal with their counterparts from the opposition. Ends
