03 Mar 2016
All roads lead to Sekoma ward in the Jwaneng-Mabutsane constituency on Saturday (March 5) where the electorates will elect their new council representative.
Mr Robert Rantsho of the Umbrella for Democratic Change (UDC) and Botswana Democratic Party's (BDP) Mr Keboetseng Lebotso have been endearing themselves to residents of Sekoma, Keng, Khonkhwa and Mahotshwane.
The council seat became vacant following the passing on of the incumbent, Mr Makalare Ngomme in December.
Mr Ngomme won the seat with 1 245 votes under the UDC ticket in the 2014 general elections, defeating BDP's Mr Sabata Dikgokgwane and BCP's Mr Tiroyaone Letlamma who got 946 and 42 votes respectively.
Mr Rantsho called on the opposition party members to work together to ensure they retained the council seat. “I thank you for having entrusted me to represent you for the upcoming bye-election, but I also urge you to offer your necessary support so that we can win the election,” he said this after winning the primary election.
The ruling party has left nothing to chance. The party deployed former area MP and now Southern District Council chairperson, Mr Mephato Reatile, as its campaign manager for the bye-election.
Both parties have been holding massive rallies in the area with the intension to woo voters. Ends
