21 Feb 2016

The Umbrella for Democratic Change (UDC) 2014 parliamentary candidate for Mahalapye West, Mr Mmika Solomon has joined the Botswana Democratic Party (BDP).

Mr Solomon, along with other new members were welcomed to the BDP in Gaborone on Thursday in an event graced by Vice President, Mr Mokgweetsi Masisi.

Speaking at the rally, Serowe South Member of Parliament, Dr Pelonomi Venson-Moitoi said the ruling party had done a lot of developments. She said the party concentrated on education, health and infrastructure in the past 50 years.

Dr Venson Moitoi said health care in Botswana was the cheapest in Africa. “We are always told to benchmark on South Africa. There is no hospital in South Africa where you can receive health services for only P5,” she said.

She told the new members that they should always preach the truth in their campaigns, and to tell Batswana what the BDP has achieved. She also advised them to use the party manifesto during campaigns and to abide by all party rules.

Shashe West MP, Mr Fidelis Molao told the rally that the government would construct a 27 kilometre dual road connecting Gabane, Mogoditshane and Mmakgodi as well as internal roads in Gabane through the Economic Stimulus Programme (ESP).

He added that they would not disadvantage Gabane and Mmankgodi residents just because they voted for the opposition in the last general elections. Mr Molao also said the overnment would construct a 24 kilometre road connecting Modipane and Mabalane. Ends
