Leader of Umbrella for Democratic Change (UDC), Mr Duma Boko has advised opposition political parties to work together.

Mr Boko who is also Gaborone Bonnington North legislator was speaking during a rally held to celebrate Botswana National Front (BNF)’s 50^th anniversary and honour the late Kgosi Bathoen II at Mmasekou Freedom Square in Kanye on Saturday. 

He said that numerous lessons had been drawn from the many instances in the past where individual opposition parties had worked in isolation only to diminish their chances of election victory.

Mr Boko said opposition parties must project themselves as a force to reckon with.

“Let us rise as leaders, be at the forefront and ensure opposition unity becomes a reality,” he said expressing hope that efforts made thus far to bring other opposition parties to the negotiating table are bearing fruit.

Botswana Congress Party (BCP) leader, Mr Dumelang Saleshando said a lot needs to be done to adress challenges of workers in the country.

He said inflation has eroded public servants buying power over the years, making a case for adjustment of salaries.
He too rooted for opposition cooperation. 

“ We exude talented and gifted individuals within our rank and file who can take this nation to greater heights,” he said.
Mr Saleshando though warned fellow comrades that attaining state power called for hard work and total cooperation. “Let us also desist from cheap talk that will not help our cause. We are not going to live in the past but have a future ahead of us all,” he said.

Botswana Movement for Democratic Change (BMD) leader and MP for Gaborone Bonnington South, Mr Ndaba Gaolathe said there was a lot of talent among Batswana which should be used to develop the country.

 

The Botswana National Front also used the star rally to give out medals to some individuals in recognition of their contribution to the growth of the party among them  the late Kgosi Bathoen II, Mr Maitshwarelo Dabutha. Ends
