Makgato praises BDP programmes

The chairperson of the Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) women’s wing, Ms Dorcus Makgato has said the ruling party’s policies and programmes are peerless in Africa.
Ms Makgato was addressing a BDP rally last Saturday in Gasegwagwa village in the Mmathethe/Molapowabojang constituency where she also welcomed former BDP councillor, Mr Sebereki Lechina into the party.
Mr Lechina rejoined the party after standing as an independent candidate in the last general elections.
Ms Makgato who is also the minister of health urged the electorate to continue supporting her party.
She said they continue to welcome new members from opposition parties who have realised that the BDP is developing Batswana.
She mentioned that through the Economic Stimulus Programme (ESP), the government will take care of its people through constructing health facilities. She said Botswana is the only country in Africa that offers free health care and education.
Ms Makgato, who is also MP for Sefhare/Ramokgonami constituency, stated that opposition parties are discouraging Batswana from benefiting from government programmes while some of them are utilise them.
Another speaker, MP for Kanye North, Mr Patrick Ralotsia told the electorate that to rule a country is not as easy as opposition parties think, more especially during the economic meltdown.
He said his ministry; that of agriculture, supplies farmers with free seeds, manure and livestock medicine.
He said government wants to drill boreholes for farming clusters and construct roads and provide electricity and water in agricultural production areas
He advised them to practice row planting and to look after their livestock away from polluted grass and water.Former Minister of Local Government and Housing,
Mr Peter Siele said BDP’s 50 year rule has ensured that the country enjoys peace and tranquility.
Mr Siele said people are returning to the BDP because of its attractive programmes and good ideas.
He appealed to democrats to recruit more people into the party. He said the introduction of the ESP is testimony that the ruling BDP understands challenges faced by Batswana. Ends
