BDP best party chairperson
24 Jan 2016
Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) chairperson, Mr Mokgweetsi Masisi, has taken the lead in demonstrating love, care and compassion to the nation.
He said in terms of policies and programmes, there is no party in Africa, which could match BDP.
Addressing a political rally at Maun East constituency on Saturday January 23, Mr Masisi urged Batswana to continue supporting his party noting that it was the only party that would continue to lead the country.
He said no country enjoyed democracy, peace and tranquility like Botswana, adding that BDP continued to welcome new members from opposition parties because they realised the seriousness of the party in developing people’s lives.
Mr Masisi, also the country’s Vice President, said his party took care of people at an early stage until death, noting that they deliberately introduced good programmes to benefit all Batswana despite their status or ethnical groups.
Mr Masisi said HIV/AIDS was one of the challenges government won. He also stated that his party had introduced youth programmes aimed to empower and develop them.
He said youth constituted a high population hence the need to take care of them and meet their needs. He urged Batswana to refrain from opposition parties as they discouraged them from benefiting from the available programmes.
Mr Masisi said opposition members were against the introduction of Economic Stimulus Programme (ESP), but failed to come up with suggestions on how the initiative could be improved.
Mr Masisi remained optimistic that by 2019 election, his party would win with a big margin in all constituencies.
BDP members were advised to continue with the recruitment drive to sustain the integrity of the party.
Mr Masisi said the opposition parties had no future, adding that by the next election most of them would have collapsed as their members were tracing their steps back to the ruling party.
He dismissed some reports that BDP was buying opposition members to join it.
He explained that people were coming back because of attractive policies and programmes the ruling party had introduced. He said they would continue to attract, dikgosi, pastors, veterans and youth noting that they were targeting youth aged 15-17.
Member of Parliament for Shashe West, Mr Fidelis Molao, explained that ESP was a good initiative geared towards stimulating the economy, diversifying it and thus result in accelerated job creation across the country.
He said BDP understood challenges faced by the nation hence the introduction of ESP. He revealed that it was disturbing to learn that opposition parties had connived with some public servants to sabotage the programme.
Mr Molao also mentioned another initiative, target 20 000 which aimed to attract youth to go back to schools and learn life skills. He urged Batswana at large to take advantage of the available initiatives in place and ignore opposition parties’ empty promises. Ends
